Why does my printer keep disappearing on Windows Vista?

• Ok, I loaded the cd for my printer many times. The main part is: The printer DOES print on my laptop. It keeps disappearing for some reason. It has disappeared about nearly 50 times. Each time I reload it, it works and prints through my laptop. But, then 5 minutes later the printer disappears again. My laptop is a sony vaio. Also, my printer is very new. I just bought it on January 3rd. Do I need to download the drivers with the cd? The problem is that my laptop DOES print through the network BUT the printer keeps disappearing. I go to microsoft word and it's gone. I know that it MUST be Windows Vista as the problem. That's the reason I only have one laptop with Windows Vista. The rest of my laptops/desktops have Windows XP. Again, my laptop is a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista. The printer is new too. Also, both the printer and computer are pretty expensive. Any help would be appreciated.
