Why do you have to completely seal the black, when refilling Canon ink cartridges?

A question regarding refilling ink cartridges?

  • I have a canon printer for my pc one of those 3 in 1 with print, copy and scanning, anyhow, i see places around my area that refill ink cartridges for half the price of buying a new ink cartridge at a retail store.. is this a safe alternative? im more scared if the ink isnt filled proerly it will leak and thus ruin my printer... im just looking for some opinions on people that have tried this way,and was there problems or is it the same as buying a new ink cartridge.... any feedback would be appreciated , thanks.. :)

  • Answer:

No! If u do cheap refilling then ur printer's head will get damaged and ur printer will start printing in different colours then specified.u should buy new cartridge.

People have a mix feeling about this mainly because of the manufacturer propaganda and those untrained clerk at a refilling station. Bottom line it been filled once surely it can be filled again. I mean ink dont magically appear inside the cartridge a process must been use to fill in the ink in the first place. Ink cartridge manufacturers are sad that others are finding ways to refill their cartridges (manufacturers indicate that the nozzles are not engineered for multiple use and Consumer Reports indicates color refill prints are only ok while black is good when refilling) others are warily excited. Research is beginning to show that consumers would pay to have somebody else refill their cartridges if the price were around half the originals cost.Walgreens has been looking into this process for about 1,500 of its stores. It feels there may have room for refilling hp ink cartridge and refilling canon ink cartridge. The 10-15 minute process is relatively inexpensive and may be a somewhat palatable compromise with original cartridge manufacturers. The manufacturers, however, would need to convince consumers that refilling is only wise for a certain number of refills before they need a completely new cartridge.

If it's a reliable company there will be no problem. Cartridge World, for example, uses high quality inks. They don't leak unless overfilled, and that would typically be evident in the packaging before you even opened it. If done properly by someone who knows what they are doing you'll have no problem. There are a couple issues to be aware of. If your Canon uses tanks like the PGI-220 black and CLI-221 colors they should be able to reset the chip so the cartridge acts like a new one and the ink levels are properly displayed. If, however, your Canon uses the PG-30, PG-40 or PG-50 black and CLI-31, CLI-41 or CLI-51 tri-color cartridges that will not be the case. There is no way to reset the electronics in those so they will register as low or empty all the time. When they reach their max printed pages as determined by the manufacturer they will shut down the printer regardless of how much ink is in them. You can override this by pressing and holding the cancel or reset button for 6-10 seconds to turn off ink level detection. The down side is that you'll never know when you are about to run out of ink again until the print quality suddenly turns horrible.
