How to install windows7?

  • Hi, I have windows xp operating system now and i want to install windows 7 now. I have windows7 cd and tried lot of times to format my system and install windows7. The steps i am writing below how i tried to install 1) After inserting CD and when a window opened which contained install now button, i clicked on "install now". 2) After setup started i clicked on "Do not get the latest updates for installation". 3) Then "i accept the license terms" and clicked on 'next'. 4) Then i clicked on "Custom(advanced)" button. 5) The screen displayed "where do you want to install windows" i selected "c drive" and it saying there is already another windows operating system if u want to install windows in same drive the old windows will be moved to one folder and it will be renamed as 'windows.old'. When i searched many videos from net i found installation window contains "Advanced driver options" but unfortunately i didn't find driver options. In installation screen i found only 'refresh', 'browse driver' options. Please please help me out from this problem. Is there is any way, i can format/delete complete "C drive" and install a fresh copy of windows7. Thanking you in advance...

First off, you need to get the latest updates for installation. Don't bypass that option when it comes up. This will provide the drivers necessary. That honestly, should be all you need. As far as moving XP, it should automatically uninstall that once you come to that point in the installation of Windows 7. That may be part of the latest updates that are provided as well. Once again, Don't bypass downloading the latest updates when prompted. It will be much more difficult to install 7 if you don't have them.

There is an option when you first start to install, not sure where but it's at the bottom in options. This will delete the entire partition and anything on it,hence getting rid of your other copy of windows.

Is your computer powerful enough to run 7? Going from XP to 7 is a big leap, also; don't click on custom install. Just click the '(recommended)' way. The windows.old file can be deleted. You must download all the updates as it's installing otherwise it may not work.

Before doing all this, please review the "where do you want to install windows page" as I am sure that there is an option to delete/format the partion You would have to delete the old operating system A way to do this is to shut off your computer(with the windows 7 installation disc inside) And when it starts it usually shows a BIOS(you don't need to know) and it should say press (key) usually f6 or f12 on your keyboard and select start windows form cd/dvd From that page press any key to continue and there should be(not entirely sure if it's the same exact as mine however) a bluish page(once it loads) and it should have your c drive and other drives labeled. There should be instructions on formatting it, mine says press f in order to do so and do a full format. After that it should restart and proceed to install windows 7 My instructions may differ as we have different computer Also, if you want, you could dual boot( keep windows xp and windows 7 installed both in one computer) just by pressing yes on the windows.old but only if you have sufficient disc space requirements.

See here: http://0.tqn.com/d/pcsupport/1/0/3/6/-/-/windows-7-clean-install-B.jpg See the delete option at the bottom? Highlight the partition(s) that are there, and delete them (all of them) -- so it frees up the hard drive, and says 'Unallocated'. Now simply select the drive and hit Next at the bottom, to begin installation of Windows 7.

if you need any more help ,just add it here,i will check your question from time to time. yes, there is a way. where the partitions are shown, click on advanced. select a partition, click format . (or delete than format than create partition.) . than select that partition and click install,or next,i dont really remember. i had the same prob.

insert the dvd into your drive and reboot when the system boots it should say press any key to boot from cd, press a key then after it has finished copying files you should get the screen asking which drive to install to at the bottom you should have the option to format the drive, do so the install should then continue, just follow the instructions. hope this helps

Sorry, my friend, but from your description it sounds like you're doing it totally wrong. You need to insert the Windows 7 DVD into your DVD drive and reboot your computer. When the computer restarts, watch the screen for a message that says Press any key to boot from CD. Press a key and follow the instructions. If your computer doesn't offer this message you need to enter your BIOS system. Watch the screen for a message that says Press F1/F2/Del to enter Setup. (The key to press is different for different BIOSes, which are built in to your motherboard.) When you finally manage to enter the BIOS, you'll need to look for Boot Options. Here you need to change the order in which the computer boots. Choose CD/DVD as the first option, then press F10 to save the changes. Reboot your computer, and then look for the message to Press any key to boot from CD. During the setup you'll need to do what's called a destructive installation. Don't worry, this won't destroy anything, but it will format your hard drive. You MUST make sure that you've backed up everything that you need as it will be lost if you don't. Once the formatting has taken place the Setup will continue automatically. Follow the onscreen prompts, such as choosing the country you are in, the language you wish to use, the keyboard options (i.e. whether you're using an American layout or a British English layout), and the code for your version of Windows. Best of luck to you.
