Dell, Lexmark and HP printers are the main printers that people refill ink with. The HPs seem to be very popular since its fairly easy compared to other printers. Just be aware that you cant refill indefinitely. What makes HPs so good is that the printhead is on the cartridge (unlike Epson where its in the printer) which means you get a new printhead everytime you change your cartridge. So after about 5+ refills the printhead in that cartridge is not very effective and you have to start with a fresh brand new cartridge. Anyway, if you hav an OLDER HP printer this is really nice. The old HP printers used massive ink cartridges that held about 19ml ink for the black and similar amounts in color carts. They even had high capacity carts which held over 30 ml (I think 38ml). Take a look at the HP56145 carts and 1823D carts for example. But those are used in the older printers. If you can get your hands on one in GOOD condition that would be nice. Now compare this with the new HP95 black cartridge for $25 which only has 7ml ink and their high capacity version (#97) which only has 14ml ink for $35. These even have chips in them. So HP has stolen a page out of Epsons book and chipped their carts to discourage refilling. Personally, I suggest that you dont buy a printer based on its refilling capability but based on its ability to replace with "compatible" carts. HP and Lexmark compatible carts will always be more expensive than Canon/Epson carts because manufactures cant make generic carts for HP/Lexmark (due to patent issues). You can generally get Epson and Canon carts for under $3. I rarely pay more than $2 for my Epson R220 carts, so its almost as cheap as refilling and certainly more reliable and clean. They even sell chip resetter (about $10-15) for Epson and other printers which will allow to refill and use chipped carts. I reset my chipped Epson carts when I want to jiuce every last bit of ink in 'emYou can even get CIS (continous ink system) in where carts are fed through a tube from a bottle so you NEVER run out of ink and you can buy your ink in HUGE bottles and save LOTS of money. Short answer to your question is HP, Dell, Lexmark, BUT be careful with the newer models as they may implement SMALL carts and have chips as well Any questions/comments, you can send me email

I know several can, but I've been told by some computer expert friends of mine that this is a bad idea because it really can end up damaging your printer.

Hp can defiantly

Look around. Even for the chipped cartridges, you can usually find a gizmo to reset the chip. I've seen one for the HP printers. I've got a friend who regularly resets the chip in the cartridges for his HP printer.

I have used an Epson 1290 printer for 4yrs now and only bought 2 black & 2 colour cartridges so far I use the jet tec rechipper after refilling cartridges, and buy 250ml bottles of ink as iI do a lot of photography this is the cheapest .the rechipper only works with genuine Epson cartridges, which should be replaced after a certain time as cartridge nozzle can deteriate, think again about purchasing epson printer as they are very good.

The easiest cartridges to refill would be the all-n-one Dell cartridges, the HP, canon, sharp and lexmark. Most of the refill kits for those ink cartridges are ink bottles and syringes in which are the easiest to do without complications. You may run into problems with the cartridge not showing the correct ink levels but you can easily correct the problem by checking off the ink level reminder. I hope that helps.
