What is a good printer that I can use for occasional use?

Good printer I can use remanufactured cartridges in..any suggestions?

  • I bought a Dell 922 all in one printer. It's a good printer for any one who doesn't print alot, unlike me. These new printers by Dell will lock out a refilled cartridge, not allowing use of it. Because of this, I am now looking for a good quality printer that I can use refilled ink cartridges in (that prints good pics as well). Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Answer:

I have a Canon MP830 all in one and love it! 3 colors plus a dye black and a pigment black the ink cartridges go fast, but we are working on two theories right now. If you refill a cartridge, the chip on it still says empty. This works through 2 cartridge changes, but no one has tested it through a 3 change rotation to see if the printer can remember more than the last two cartridges. I am waiting to go through my 3rd change to see if that works or not on a refilled cartridge. Early reports indicate that this might not work because the chip on each cartridge has a counter that counts down to zero. If this is the case, once it reads zero, it will stay there unless reset. The chip resetters are way too expensive at this time. If that doesn't work, you can still refill and "over-ride" this Canon printer by holding down the "Stop/Reset" button for 5 seconds. It will cancel all ink alarms and you will have to manually keep an eye on ink levels. PS, I think the best refill site I have found so far is below. This is for the ink in my printer, but you can search for your model also. One of the biggest problems with ink cartridges in the past has been the fact that you can't see the inside. Most of them were made of black, gray, or other colored material. Many of the newer models of Canon and others have clear plastic tanks. So, it is easier to see that the tank is almost full, and stops you from over-filling it. As long as you don't contaminate the ink or cartridge, don't over-fill it, seal it well after refilling, and use quality ink, there is no reason you can't refill them. It is a tank...not a print head and not a moving part. Anyone who tells you different is someone who owns stock and wants to get rich off of you buying only new ink tanks. Bottom line is, a good printer is one that uses separate tanks for each color so that you replace only what it needed, not an entire cartridge with 3 inks when only one of the colors is out and one that has clear tanks so that you can refill it if you desire.

I have a Canon Pixma IP2000. It is an excellent printer and I buy my cartridges on Abc Ink for the non name brand ones. They are $3 for colored ones (all in one) and $2.50 for the black ones. It even does an excellent job printing pictures. I got it at Target last year.

the short answer is "Don't use remanufactured cartridges", as a support professional I have seen what a mess (more than a few times) that a 'generic' or 'reman' cartridge can do to a printer or even a whole office (I mean I've seen em spew baby...._ They are ridiculously expensive I know, but stick to the manufacturers cartridges. and I hate Dells anyway.
