Laser Toner vs Inkjet Carts -- Any difference?

When deciding what type of printer to purchase, you need to be aware that toner and ink are not the same thing. Ink is liquid and is delivered by spitting little drops on the page. Toner is powder that is made to cling to the page and is baked on; There 2 important questions you need to ask yourself. 1- how much do I print All printers, especially laser printers, haver a recommended print volume or stated duty cycle. In laer printers, the higher the duty cycle, the more you can print. Higher duty cycle laser printers are also generally faster because they are used in office and commercial environments where print volumes are higher. Laser printing is extremely competitive, so what manufacturers do is price the cost of replacement print cartridges lower as the print speed and duty cycle get higher. (This applies to color and B&W). The cost of owning a laser printer, any laser printer, will generally be between 7x to 10x the purchase price of the printer, so there is an incentive for high volume users to buy printers that use cheaper print cartridges. In a nutshell, if you buy a low volume color laser, you will pay more per page that on a higher volume color laser. Inkjet printers like your DeskJet are designed for occasional use. Companies like HP make their money on the ink. There is no more expensive way to print then on a cheap ink jet printer. It sounds like you are a very low volume printer, so on this basis alone, I would recommend you stick with an inkjet printer, although you might want to consider getting your printing done at Staples or somewhere...it would be cheaper What do I print? If you want to print photo quality prints, your best bet, despite the cost of printing, is an inkjet printer, or taking your photos to a kiosk that will print them for you on a dye sub machine (London Drugs, Wal Mart). Because they use ink, not toner, ink jet printers can produce a much better image than laser, especially when using photo media, but if your printing volume is that low, I doubt it is worth it. As far as the Brother 2040 is concerned, you would be better off to save your money. They are garbage.

yup da advice given to u is right as u leeve da printer for a long period of time well laser toners dont dry up lyk inkjet carts cause its only fine powder lyk substance but dey do get settled down after not bein used for a long time but da solution is easy as u just hav to shake the toner a little and thn ur printer wud wrk fine

Laser jet has less failures than ink jets. The dry toner lasts until its gone without the fear drying out or cartridge failure. If you infrequently use it..the brother could last for years. But I do recommend looking at Hp lasers...Their servicing is simple and consumable parts are readily available....also keep it covered when not in use...dust is it's enemy.

For the price cost of a lazer printer and lazer carts I would buy a new inkjet. special if you don't even print that often. I will save you some money in the long run. But lazer are better but also more expensive

Your deskjet 950c uses #45 which has a page yield of about 833 pages ---- not bad compared with mine (officejet 5610 which yields only 450 pages). The #45 cartridge sells for $37.96 at Staples (taxes not included), which works out to be about 4.6 cents a page. If you buy a laser printer such as HP 1020 for $129.95, its toner cartridge sells for $82.72 at Staples and prints about 2,500 pages. This works out to be about 3.3 cents per page. Note that the more expensive printer you buy, the lower will be the cost per page. For example, if you buy Officejet Pro L7780 ($549.43), the #88XL extra large cartridge which sells at $43.76 can print 2,350 pages at about 1.9 cents per page!!! So it all depends on how many pages do you print over the life of the printer (say, 3 years).

Toner ink dries up even when unused. Ink jet on the other hand, does not. I would only use ink jet printers. I have an HP Photosmart 3310 All in One and i love it.

I definitely recommend going with a laser printer. They do usually cost more, and the toner can be expensive, but it doesn't dry out like inkjet cartridges do. If you are an infrequent printer, laser is the way to go. The toner cartridges of a laser printer will almost always outlast an inkjet cart by a significant factor (page for page). In my opinion, laser printers are much more crisp as well. These days, inkjet printers are really cheap (both to buy and manufacture). Laser printers are still somewhat "higher end" and designed better, last longer, etc.

Laser Jet printers literally use lasers to print, therefore they are generally more expensive, as are the cartridges. However they work much better, they dont "dry up" because there is no ink to dry, just toner, and u generally dont have to worry about any smudges on the paper. You wont have to worry about only using it once a month. If you have the cash, go with a laser jet!

Look it is true that a laser printer is much more faster and efficient than a deskjet, the toner let you print more pagespper minute a uses less ink than a deskjet but the difference is in the price the laser toner cost much more, is that is not a problem for you go for the laser one is a better printer. I have one and i don't have any complaints. Remember when you buy a new printer the cartridge always come half fill.
