Help with information about any printer?

Very limited $--need Dell-compatible printer(+scanner+copier OK). Help, appreciate any information. Tnx.?

  • Have one-year old Dell Dimension 2400 w/Windows XP. (Intel inside) celeron. User has MS--lives in "assisted living." Computer was gift from now-late uncle.

    Any printer/scanner that is XP compatible will work. Your next question(s) should concern the cost of operating and the quality of the output. Buying a printer that prints 4 pages per minute as opposed to one that prints 20 pages per minute for a minimal difference in price as well as a higher quality output should also be considered. If all you want is a cheap printer - you can probably buy one used.

Printers/Scanners are plug and play. Meaning you don't have to worry about Dell compatible. Just find the best deal you can.

I'd actually recommend you send them (or take them, preferably) to Wal-Mart. They sell a nice little Lexmark printer there for $30-35. My dad bought one, and I couldn't believe how good it printed. Of course, make sure to buy a printer cartridge for it while you're there. Yeah, I know that the cartridges cost about what the printers cost, but the cartridges they include with them are only 1/8-1/4 full, so they last no time.

Any xp ready printer will work with a dell. I would recommend looking for an HP or Brother you can usually find a decent one around $100. You will generally find lexmarks at a much lower price, however when it comes time to replace the cartridges you will find that Lexmark has the most expensive cartridges on the market.
