How can I get my wireless printer to communicate with my computer?

Why isn't my compatible Dell printer communicating with my computer after a successful software installation?

  • Hi all. My computer crashed a few months ago. I had XP Pro on it as my operating system and it always worked great. I did a system restore, upgraded to Vista Ultimate and I had to reinstall everything else again. Everything successfully installed and now works again except my Dell all-in-one printer. My computer and printer are both about 9 years old. I called Dell up, gave them my computer service tag and my printer service tag, and they told me my printer is still compatible even with Vista and it should still work as before. I even went to Dell's website and downloaded the updated drivers but it still didn't fix the problem. The USB port and all the other hardware are working fine. I currently have it in the shop to hopefully get it fixed. When I try to use my printer, I get a message on my screen saying my printer can't communicate with my computer. I don't know what else to rule out. What do you think the problem is? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks.
