What's wrong with my printers?

Whats the Difference between 9pin and 24pin Dot matrix Printers?

  • Answer:

9 vs. 24 pins is the number of pins on the print head. When printing plain text, each character is printed using an arrangement of dots for each line (9 rows of dots vertically for 9-pin, 24 rows of dots vertically for 24-pin). 24 pin produces higher resolution characters due to higher density.

9 pin is traditionally called "draft quality - it's readable, but nothing you'd want to use for a formal document. 24 pin is called "near letter quality" - it's not as good as the output from a typewriter or a laser printer, but its good enough for documents such as papers for school.

About 15 pins. 9pin uses 9 dots to make up each characters, whereas 24pin has 24 dots available to make each character, meaning it looks better.
