Will I be able to hook my printer to my laptop?

I'm trying to hook up my laptop to the home computer printer, but i'm having trouble?

  • I'm trying to hook up my laptop to the home computer printer, and I looked up how to and got these directions: If the printer is shared on the home computer then you should be able to connect to it by browsing for available printers :- control panel -> printers add printer add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer The computer will then search for any available printers on the home network. Any needed driver should automatically be downloaded to your machine from the home computer. I followed the directions, but on the last step It told me this: No Driver found Windows can't find a driver for (printer code name thing) on the network. To locate one manually, click OK. Otherwise, click cancel and consult your network administrator or the printer manufaturer's website. What does that mean? & what should i do? Thanks

  • Answer:

Insert the CD for the printer into the computer you are trying to setup. Then it will find it and finish the setup. If you don't have the CD you can download the drivers from the printer makers web site for free. ~

When You Buy the Printer it brings a CD to install the drivers on your computer look for that CD and install it. But if you don't have the CD go to your printer's manufacturer website and type the printer's name asking for drivers. :) I hope this help you!

ok the printer 's drivers are on the home pc. but you need the drivers on your laptop ,so use the software cd for the printer . just put it in the laptop and it should open up ..if not then open your "computer" and double click the cd drive. the "Windows can't find a driver for (printer code name thing) on the network" means that it can not find the drivers that are installed on the home pc that are needed to run the printer from your laptop... the "To locate one manually, click OK." will work if you go through it again but have the cd for it on your laptop and when you get to that point then click the "OK" and direct it to the cd( usually drive D:) good luck
