Answer:
Windows 2000 and XP are supplied with drivers for most popular printers and you should use these whenever possible. If your printer is not listed, you will need to install drivers supplied by the printer manufacturer. Read the details here: http://www.le.ac.uk/cc/dsss/docs/print-driver.shtml Hope it help, good luck.

If you have the installation software (CD, Disk) just install from that. If not go to the website of the printer manufacturer and download the appropriate driver or install package for that model. Then run the install printer wizard (I assume you're running Win ZP or 2000) and "point" to the software you downloaded.

You may need to download driver software from your printer manufacturer. Go to their website (i.e. www.hp.com or whoever it is)and look for "Driver Downloads" or "Support". There may even be a search field on the home page to take you to info for your printer model. Download whatever driver package they recommend and install it in your computer. I'm pretty sure that should resolve your issue.

You need to install the drivers that came with your printer or download them from the manufacturer if you don't have the CD.

Here are the instructions for Windows XP: 1)Open Control Panel (in start menu) and click on Printers and Faxes. 2)Select Add a Printer (under tasks). 3)The Setup Wizard should start and it will ask you to connect your printer and insert the CD-ROM that came with it. It should install. If it does not, try just connecting you printer, restarting you computer and installing its driver (on the CD). Windows Before XP. 1) Open Control Panel (under settings in the Start menu) 2) Click on the Printers and Faxes icon. 3) Right click in blank area and click Add Printer. 4) Follow step 3 in XP instructions. NOTE: You may have a defective port. Try connecting your printer to a different port and trying these steps again. If this does not work, try contacting the printer company or your computer manufacturer about how to install it. It may have specific instructions for your computer/Operating System

If your printer doesnt show up in the printer setup list, it means that you need to install the printer driver using either CD provided with the printer or go to the printer's manufacturer's website and download it. The printer wont respond as long as you do not have the appropriate printer driver (driver is a software that controls your hardware). Be sure to check the printer model and your operating system (windows 98, XP etc) when installing the new printer driver.
