Why is my printer not using all it's ink?

How can I trick my printer to print using my other ink cartridges?I hate that I run out of black and cant prnt?

  • I have an "Epson 1100 Workforce" printer...I bought it because it had two black in cartridge sections...thinking I could have black ink longer but that's not the case. It seems like it runs out of black ink too fast (I'm starting to think its a scam) Black ink is expensive. I tried covering up the hole on the bottom I guess it's some sort if sensor that can let the printer know it's out of a certain color. Thing is I have full cartridges of yellow, cayann and blue. I can't use any of them. Is there another way to trick the printer I really need to print something today. Thanks for the help in advance!!

  • Answer:

With most printers you are required to have ink in both the black and color ink cartridges in order to print in black as they work in conjunction with each other. So you will need to have the both color and black ink cartridges with ink, the same thing applies for color. In the printer driver, there is an option for "gray scale" printing. That should use only the black cartridge , but you also will need a usable color cartridge installed for that option as some color ink is also used.

If you just need to print something that's text-based, you could try changing the font to a dark color, like dark blue/navy. I've done that in the past with some things and it would work because the printer would use color and not black. And it's still dark enough that it should look black, or at least close to it.
