How to fix a monitor out of range?

  • I used Steam to install Team Fortress 2 and when I tried to start it the screen went black and said 'Frequency out of range'. Now I can't even get to my desktop when I restart my computer. I tried starting it in that VGA mode were the resolution is only 640 x 480 and installing new drivers for the monitor but nothing has worked. I can only get into safe mode were I can't change the resolution or refresh rate. I even tried using the monitor itself to change the resolution but it didn't work. My monitor tells me it's proper resolution is 1440 x 900 and the refresh rate is 60hz. I reset the monitor and, of course, it didn't work. I know I had this issue before but I don't remember how I fixed it...

  • Answer:

    Go into safe mode with networking. Download the video drivers and uninstall the ones you have now. Restart computer normally. Install drivers that you downloaded.
