Why does my computer screen keep turning off?

Why is my computer monitor turning black after so long of being idle, and how can I make it stop?

  • I keep trying to watch a movie on my computer but the damn screen keeps turning black after about 30 minutes or so of being idle. I have my screensaver turned off, but this isn't a screensaver - the screen just turns black and I have to press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse to bring the screen back. Why? Anyone know how to fix this problem?

  • Answer:

It's your computer moving into standby. Go to your power options, under control panel, and set that option to an hour or two, or just off entirely

In your power settings there's a "Turn Off Monitor" setting. You can turn it off, make the time longer, or just move the mouse once in awhile.

It isn't a traditional screensaver, but it is indeed what it is. It's a power saving feature. When you go to your screen saver options, click on POWER FEATURES or POWER SETTINGS or POWER SAVING or something, it should be listed in there.

go to control panel, power options, and change the options for when the monitor turns off.

It's a power setting called turn of monitor, or something. You can set it to make your computer disable the monitor after a certain amount of time or Never.
