How to use my Monitor as a TV screen?

How do i use my flat screen TV as a monitor?

• So i have a flat screen tv, and its the same exact tv as my brother has, and he can hook it up to his computer and use it as a monitor...but mine wont work! i attach it the same exact way but i cant get the picture on the screen! his computer is newer than mine which is probably the problem...but there has to be a way for this to work, right? do i need like a special cord or a special software on my computer to get this working? ive been trying for a really long time to get this working, but i have no luck...if anyone has any ideas, they would be appreciated, thanks (and if it matters the tv is a Dynex flat screen and i have like a compac computer, i dont know the full name=X) thanks everyone! danny

  You need to use either a DVI or VGA cable, make sure that your TV is set to digital input, and make sure that your computer is set to external monitor or mirroring. However, the resolution capabilities on flat screen TV is typically much lower than that of your computer monitor and you will need to turn the resolution output on your computer to match the native resolution of the TV or it wont work.
