How do I connect multiple monitors on a mac? Is it possible?

Multiple monitors on a mac with 1 mini displayport?

  • I work on final cut a lot, and connecting my mac to my tv helps space wise. A LOT. Now i've decided to invest in another monitor to connect my mac to but I'm not sure how to go about it. I looked for mini displayport splitters, unfortunately no such thing exists. I looked at HDMI splitters and heres the problem, many hdmi splitters can't use more than one of their ports at once. Meaning I could have both monitors plugged into my mac but I'd have to choose which one I want to use. Also there are some that work through both but share the resolution. I am looking for one able to display two 1080p signals at once. Or if there is another way to do this I haven't even considered please let me know. Big thanks :) (Also I understand 70% of you think macs are crap and your answer will most likely be "Get a PC". I need a mac for my studies so please keep it to yourself) I have a 27" Imac with 3.06 ghz intel core duo 4gb Ram and ATI radeon (something or other) 256mb Graphics card

  • Answer:

Sorry, your iMac with one miniDisplayPort supports ONE external display ONLY. If you had the newer 27-inch iMac with two Thunderbolt ports, you could hook up TWO external monitors to it (it is the first iMac to support ATI Eyefinity).
