How do I turn just the monitor off on my LapTop?

I got a VGA monitor and now I can extend my screen[from laptop] now I wanna be able to turn laptop monitor off so I can run torrents and check with my other monitor. [laptop Mo.(off)]+[XtraMo.(on/off)] during torrents (like a pc)

Ohh, see with my boyfriends monitor I just closed the screen and it automatically turned off. Then when you opened it again you had to move the mouse... Otherwise I have no idea! ^ ^;; Sorry

there's an option for power saving under the screen saver section. enable and after however long the screen will go into sleep mode.
