Why is my screen resolution messed up?

Screen resolution is messed up?

• i'm using 64x vista ever since my display driver (or one of my drivers) was updated, my resolution is different my screen size is typically 1024x768. but now if i set it to those dimensions, it doesn't fill the whole screen. there will be a black bar about 1.5 inches thick on each side. if i go to my preferences and my screen resolution, it says that it's still 1024x768. but i have to make it 1280x768 in order for it to look right (with the 1280 width, it'll take up the whole screen). i guess that solves my problem basically, but i wanna know if there's anything else i could do. i do NOT have the option to roll back my drivers

  if its not the computer, then its probably your monitor, does it have buttons on the side? or somewhere? i dont know what monitor i have but theres a button on it that says auto, and when i click it it does auto adjustment when mine gets messed up when i play games, try messing around with the buttons on the monitor if they have any
