Why does my laptop keep freezing since I smashed the monitor?

After updating my samsung r510 vista laptop the monitor has completely changed why?

  • my laptop upgraded itself and when i turned it back on the monitor and the whole display was changed. the whole screen is really wide and it says that not all programmes can be displayed because the screen is not big enough. when i go on adjust screen resolution it only comes up with only one monitor and at the bottom it says default monitor on. as well as the resolution is on 1024 by 768 pixels. and when i want to put my laptop onto sleep. the sleep button is disabled and it weren't allow me to put it on sleep. how can i chnage this because it really annoys me.

I have read your addition details, if you cant roll back the driver then I would suggest you go to the VGA manufacturers website and download the latest offering for you Video card or chip-set as clearly the Windows one is not working. A generic set is probably running and this is the reason why you can no longer display over two monitors and the resolution is not as it was. Go to the manufacturers website, download the correct drivers and this should solve your issue.

If the machine came with a software support/drivers disc, you can put the disc into the CD/DVD drive and go into CONTROL PANEL, DEVICE MANAGER then go into MONITORS and select UPDATE THE DRIVER. The system will ask you where to look for the driver and you select the CD/DVD drive. Once the driver is updated you should be able to increase the screen resolution and things like Windows Acceleration will start to work. If you do not have the above mentioned disc then logon to the PC manufacturer's website and see if you can download the driver from there.

It sounds like the video card was updated with a bad driver. Microsoft update is really bad about that. You can go into the video card properties and roll back to the previous driver to see if it works. Right click Computer and choose Manage. Click on Device Manager - Display Adapters - Double click your adapter - click on the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver. If that works you should go to microsoft update and choose custom install and hide that update so that it won't install again.
