Why does my monitor stop working when I play games?

Recently, I have found that when I play games (such as Call of Duty 4) my monitor will stop showing my screen and say that no input is present so I have to force shut down my computer. It is working fine when I restart my computer and I can pretty much do anything but run games without any problems. This has only begun to occur recently as before I was able to play the game on the exact same settings without any interruption. Here are my system specs: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz RAM: 6.00 GB System type: 64-bit Operating System Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 240 Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor I'm not really computer savvy so I'm sorry if some of this information is irrelevant.
