Why is my laptop screen fading?

My laptop has a white fading screen. Any ideas what this could be, how to solve it and how much it might cost.

  • When I tilt the screen the white fading affect (mainly seen on the top right, but covering alot of the screen) is not as prominent. Once I stop though the screen goes a very bright white with a fading affect. Different screen positions affect the degree of problem. I think the problem could be do due to the invertor, backlight or maybe even the wiring but I am not sure. I hope its not the actual LCD. Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

It sounds like there could be a few things that MIGHT have happened. The screen could have been touched 2 hard or the screen was cleaned with something it shouldn't have been like windex. There are special cleaners for cleaning laptop screens. The only possible way to fix it is to take it in and have the screen replaced. Depending on the make and model having a screen replaced can cost a lot. Try (if its under it ) to get it fixed under the warranty.

Distorted display If the Customer is saying that he has distorted display in his NB, check whether it persist only within Windows or even at the BIOS Screen. If he replies that it exists only with Windows, try reinstalling the driver. If the issue still persist or the BIOS screen is also distorted, try the following steps: This could be due to any charge that is left in the notebook capacitors. To check this, please try performing Power drain process. Here are the steps to perform a Power Drain Procedure: 1. Disconnect the AC Adapter. 2. Remove the Battery. 3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute. 4. Reconnect the AC adapter; do not connect the battery now. 5. Turn on the Notebook power. The above process will discharge the charge that is left in the Notebook which could cause this issue. If that too fails to work, then you may check with an external monitor. This is to confirm whether the issue is with the Display Panel or the Mother Board or Other Components. If the Notebook is completely dead and neither there is display nor the led blinks, then it might be a hardware failure. In this case, you may suggest the customer to contact ASP, if the NB is under warranty; arrange a mail-in repair service. Try booting the system and check. If the issue persists further, check with an external monitor. This will help us to confirm whether the issue lies with the display Panel or the MB. Provide the solution according to the result. Good Luck and Happy Processing................
