Why isn't my monitor and display adapters on my device manager?

My second monitor is low quality but should be high quality?

  • i got a connection to convert my laptops VGA connection into HDMI to use my 32" HD widescreen as my main monitor. i couldn't get it to work for a while cause everything looked good in settings. so i fiddled with it and turns out my widescreen will only work with certain resolution settings. also the only resolution setting that covers the whole widescreen screen is 800x600 pixels. i hooked up my desktop to the wide screen and it was fine. no probs. this is what i did with my laptop properties --> display settings --> clicked on 2nd screen -- > ticked box [extend the desktop onto this monitor] --> ticked box [this is my main monitor] --> clicked on monitor 1 --> unticked [extend the desktop onto this this monitor] --> clicked apply. then my new display is my widescreen but its resolution is super crappy. 800x600 pixels is the only thing that works. so to fix this i tried again but this time not pressing apply before doing the following the following. clicked monitor --> clicked advanced settings --> clicked monitor bar --> clicked properties --> click update driver --> clicked search automatically for updated driver software. then it said that i already had the latest updated software. so then i tried the following. instead of clicking monitor in the last part i clicked the long top bar saying "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile" then --> clicked graphics properties --> selected in primary device monitor --> clicked on left side panel 'display settings'. at this point its the same story as before. the wide screen will only work with 800x600 resolution and the best refress rate it'll work with is 85Hertz. the monitor will only work by default with "generic non-PnP monitor intel(R) 4 series express chipset family" and when i go into advanced settings from the display settings menu and select troubleshoot panel the "change settings" option is grey. below it it says "your current display driver does not allow changes to be made to hardware accelerration settings". if i can change setting to get my widescreen to work in high resolution please advise me on how to do so. i myself think that this intel graphics driver just isnt cut out to give me a high resolution widescreen display. i'm not sure if a graphics accelerator is hardware or software. i'm kinda a noob to this. if i can get this to work for me by downloading software please let me know. if my only option is to buy the right hardware please advise me on that iswell. like if there is such a thing as an external graphics card connected via USB that'd be great. preferrably i'd like to only have to change settings or download software. thankx for any responce ^_^

  • Answer:

    1) You may need a monitor profile to load, to recognize the tv's capabilities... 2) Intel build-in graphics are junk, it may not understand the resolution or may not support that mode 3) Try the Tv alone, as the main monitor and see if you can change the resolution at that point...
