My monitor can't display anything from my CPU?

My monitor does not show anything on the screen though my cpu is turned on.?

• When I turn my CPU on, it does not display anything on the monitor's screen. The monitor does work as I hooked my laptop up to it and it displayed everything on my laptop's screen. I checked the cord that runs between the monitor and cpu, checked the little gold colored pins, but those were fine. Everything seems fine, its just when it is hooked up to the cpu, the monitor displays "no signal" then immediately goes into standby mode. How do I fix this?

  Several hardware problems can cause this but I would try two simple things, which are normally the cause. For what follows make sure you Turn Off your computer, unplug it and ground yourself by touching the inside of the case. 1 Your video Card might have jumped it's socket when you last plugged in your monitor (did you do that lately?). If it did, you'd only get beeps maybe because of course your computer cannot show you anything. All you need to do is to open your computer' press down firmly but gently on your video card. If #2 doesn't work, you might want to borrow another video card and see if that works and then you'd know what the problem was. 2. Press down your RAM. I would take it out and put it back again. Try both,. If nothing happens, take off one and see what happens when you turn on your computer. Change with the other RAM (s) one at a time. A defective RAM would prevent your computer from booting up. 3. If none of these work, it is possible of course that a surge has fried your motherboard or the power supply or both. You DO have your computer plugged in to a reliable surge protect don't you? :)
