My LCD monitor sometimes has a blue tint?
-
hey guys, got a really weird problem here, i just custom built a new system, AMD Dual Core CPU 3800 with 1 gb ddr 2 ram, (used my old video card Nvidia GeForce 6600) and i also have a 19 inch widescreen LCD monitor i bought from Westinghouse. its worked fine untill about 3 days ago i turned my pc on and all the words were like a aqua blue tint, then it loaded to windows and same thing, every thing had a blue tint. idk if the monitor is bad? or maybe its cuz my video card is old? i read some where that my vga cable could have a short. the problem is, i didnt purchase the extended waranty with this and my 30 days to return it to best buy is up. When i hit the desk the monitor sits on gently, it goes back to normal color, and or sometimes it will flash then go back to normal. any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thank you.

Answer:
If it is cyan (pale blue) then it sounds like your red is missing. Yellow will be green, white will be cyan, magenta will be blue. Check your cable - make sure it is not loose (red is pin 1, so if it pulled to one side that is the first to go) and that there are no sharp kinks or damage to the cable. What does the OSD menu look like? If that is normal it points towards a bad cable or a bad video card. If you can try the monitor on another system, or another monitor on your system. It may be the graphics card or an internal problem within the monitor.

I agree with the possibility of cable problems. Just one added thought: Almost any electronic item you buy comes with a standard warranty -- usually about a year. The purpose of the Best Buy return policy is to keep people from using a product for an extended period of time before deciding they don't want it. If the problem turns out to be with the monitor itself, find out if it is still covered by the standard warranty. They will take back a bad product after the 30 day return limit if it is still covered under the standard warranty.

It seems that you have a problem similar to one I recently encountered. The problem with mine was a bent pin in the connector from the monitor to the PC. Another of my monitors went red. The problem there was an intermittent connection in the cable at the back of the connector that goes to the PC.

Sounds like a cable issue...and it's a cheap fix. I'd try another VGA or DVI cable. One bend pin can throw all colors out of whack! Good luck.
