Why does my laptop keep freezing since I smashed the monitor?

My laptop screen goes dark, but when I connect another monitor to it, that monitor displays perfectly. Why?

  • I'm using an IBM Pentium 2 laptop. This problem occurs upon booting the laptop.

  • Answer:

You may have accidentally switched it to the monitor connection. There should be a way to select the built in display, the monitor or both. Check you manual to find out how as it varies between different brands and models of laptops. Bert

it sounds like the inductor for your backlight or the backlight itself is broken. A repair is imminent.

I had that trouble on my friends laptop. I was able to fix it after I have replace the LCD. I think your LCD panel is messed up.

Have you checked the settings? Do you have the contrast all the way up or down?

Yes, you could do what others say. If still none, then use the monitor that work and have it be switched to your monitor as primary and choose extend to this monitor. If you pick use other monitor, the laptop obviously starts using other monitor.
