TV monitor wont work in normal mode for my laptop, desperately need help!?

heres the deal, i managed to smash my laptop screen and so, as a solution, i plugged it into my TV, where it worked fine ... before going blank after about an hour. the thing is .. it will connect to other TV's or if i restart the laptop in safe mode. just, not in normal mode, its defo in the right input and such. it just wont work in THIS tv in regular mode, it works up until i select which mode to start it in, then once i select normal, it doesnt work. when it starts to load the OS. My laptop is an acer aspire 5315 and its running on windows vista.
