Why is there no sound coming from my monitor?

Why is no sound coming out of the monitor on my computer?

  • I have an HDMI to mini-HDMI connection, why is no sound coming out when I enable it as the default audio device and raise the volume? Thanks

  • Answer:

Make sure your monitor has speakers and in the settings on the monitor they are configured to use the HDMI source and not a stereo cable. Older graphics cards with HDMI might not have the capability to output HD audio or at least not without a newer update. Go to the manufacturer website and make sure you have the newest driver. If you have a new card like something from the Nvidia 500 series they should be capable as soon as windows installs the first driver for it. If none of this helps try opening the Nvidia control panel or whatever ATI has and searching "audio" in help. there might be some troubleshooting guides

Does your monitor even have speakers? Are you sure the HDMI connection on your computer is a valid sound output source?
