What is the proper way to open a laptop lid?

Laptop screen goes black?

  • hi, I have a hp pavilion dv5000 laptop. Recently the screen goes black. (like its off) not the dim lit issue. If I close the lid almost all the way and then quickly open it, the picture comes back on for maybe 5 seconds or so and then goes black. I was able to hook this laptop up to an old monitor via vga and everything seems to be working. I was wondering what could be wrong and how I could fix it.

  • Answer:

Its most likely a dead screen issue. You see screens dont last forever and when they get old they tend to just turn off also know as "the black screen of death" you will need a replacement Screen. From triggerfinger (look at source for more) IMO it is a defective LCD. But try the steps below: Power OFF the computer Remove the battery Unplug AC Press and hold Power ON button for 30 secs. at least Put back the battery Plug back AC Power ON as normal Does the LCD black only when in Windows? Is screen OK when in BIOS setup menu? If LCD is blank from power ON but external monitor works perfectly, then it could be the LCD.

Sounds like your Back Light is out or going out. That Happened to a friend of mine with the same latop and it only took him a year to get HP to fix it under warranty, Good Luck with that since HP is going out of the PC Business
