What monitors are good for gaming and are resonably cheap?

Gaming on 3 monitors... what video card?

  • Hey I am looking to build a new gaming PC, and I'm not sure what video card(s) to go with. I would like to play the latest games such as CODMW2 and Dirt 2 on 3 monitors. I am looking at the 5850/5870 but I'm not sure if it supports it, I heard I cannot use Both DVI ports and the Mini Display post at the same time. I would like to keep the price around $400 (lower if possible) but don't want to sacrifice quality. I plan on having (3) 23" 1920x1080 monitors. What card (s) would be best? Dont worry about my CPU or RAM I already plan on the i7930, and 6GB DDR3. Thanks.

    Yes, both the HD5850 and HD5870 support triple monitors. I should know, I own an HD5870. If you want to run triple monitors, two DVI and one DisplayPort monitor is required. Here's the list of games that can be run on a 3-monitor Eyefinity Array: http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-software.aspx Dirt 2 supports Eyefinity but Modern Warfare 2 does not. Oh, and keep in mind that third monitor is REQUIRED to have a DisplayPort jack if you want to run a 3-monitor eyefinity array. Hope this helps. .

They will both work but I think with a system like that, you should go for the 5870. The 5850 will work in triple monitors but it will be strained while gaming. It'll run fine on many of today's games but future games will surely choke on thsi card running 3 monitors. From some quick googling, I see that you can use 3 monitors off one card so there you have it. I would recommend the 5870 if you game regularly.

You'll probably need two cards. Most higher end cards only have 2 outputs.
