How do you convert pixels to inches?

Convert pixels H + L to mg's and inches H + L?

  • can someone explain how to convert pixels height X length to get the file size in mg's and it's size in inches height X length?

  • Answer:

Pixels H * W = total number of pixels. Total # * colour depth (Bytes/pixel) will give you the uncompressed file size. So, a 2048 by 1536 image (3 Mpixel) at 24bit colour depth (3 bytes) will take up 9 MB uncompressed. With Jpeg compression that could come way down significantly. The more the compression the lossier it is and the worse the image looks. How big it is in inches depends on the dpi (dots per inch) setting of the file (for how big it is reported on the system) or the printer (for how big it is on the paper.) So our 3 Mpixel file printed at 300 dpi will be 2048/300 - about 6.8 inches wide and 1536/300 about 5.1 inches high. At 600 dpi it will be half the width and height. At 150 dpi it will be twice the width and height.
