Computer monitor broken?

Connecting a laptop w/ broken screen to a computer monitor?

  • i was told there is some type of cord that i can use to connect my laptop to a tv or other computer monitor so that i can still use my laptop even though it has a broken screen. what type of cord is it? where do i get it? and how much does it cost? and how does it work?

  • Answer:

Look at your laptop. If it has a socket (often blue) with 3 rows of pins, you can plug a monitor there, no special cable required.

Option 1: VGA Cable Mostly likely, your laptop has a VGA port. You can go to Best Buy or Radio Shack and purchase a VGA cable for around $20 - this will allow you to hook up your laptop to a computer monitor. Option 2: S-Video Cable Some laptops also have an S-Video port. Again, for about $20, you can buy an S-Video cable, and hook up your laptop to a television that has an S-Video input. I wouldn't really recommend this, as a normal definition television will look really blurry. Your best bet is to bring your laptop with you to the store, and ask somebody in the computer department to check to see if you have a VGA port, and to help you find a VGA cable.
