What can be wrong with the computer screen?

What's wrong with my computer screen?

  • Last night before i went to bed, I put my computer to sleep. Then when i woke up this morning i clicked my mouse to turn it back on. Everything turned on, but my moniter stayed asleep and wouldn't turn on. I had to restart my computer. When i restarted my computer, my moniter showed the start up screens, but then it just went to a blank screen but i could still see the cursor. Plus everything still works. Like i can double click an area on the screen where my iTunes is and a song will start playing and i can double click another spot to change the song. So what's wrong with my monitor? *I'm kind of thinking my computer didn't really restart or something. Because when i restart it, it then goes to the screen where i have to type in my password and none of my programs would still be running like they were when i did it....

  • Answer:

If you think it may not have restarted, I'd say to a hard shut down (hold the power button for about 5 seconds) and it will power off. Leave it off for about 30 seconds then turn it back on. There's a small, small, tiny risk of corrupting a few files doing that, but much more likely that it won't happen. Then try that out.

It sounds like your monitor driver got messed up. Either roll it back or get the newest one. You can find that in your control panels (if you can see that or know how to get to it with out looking)

first thing I would do is do another restart see if that would get it reset right. if that doesn't work i would then start it up in safe mode. then if its still not working right i would say you have a system corruption and have to do a reinstall after doing a back up. if it works fine in safe mode then i would suspect a virus. i hope this heps

It sounds to me like your computer is having issues coming out of a standby state, and that you really did not fully restart it. Like the first poster, a hard reset is the best option. Hold the power button down until everything shuts off, you should be able to tell. Then power it back on.
