Computer monitor broken?

My computer monitor is broken?

  • after a game crashed last nite on my computer the image on my screen has been shifted like an eighth of an inch up. There is a thin black bar beneath my start menu and half of the top bar is missing so i can only see half the "x" to close a program. I tried restarting the computer, unplugging the monitor, reinstalling the driver, adjusting the screen resolution, color, and frequency, and there's even an option to shift or rotate the image on the screen but it pretended like my black bar was part of my screen. The only thing i think i can do is change an option/ go to the menu on my monitor itself, but the problem is that all of the buttons on the side of my monitor now act as a power button, turning the monitor on and off. The light adjustment, menu, and auto (which is the button that should fix my problem according to gateway) all turn on or off the screen. What the hell can i do to fix this?

  • Answer:

Try the monitor on another PC with a different cable, if it works then it's the card or cable. If it doesn't, it's the monitor. Try a different monitor, if it doesn't work it's the card or cable. Try another cable, if it works, it's the cable. If it doesn't, it's the card. © arou42
