How can I connect my ps3 to my computer monitor?

Can a PS3 bought in the USA connect with a european computer monitor?

  • I dunno if NT-SC, PAL rules apply to computer monitors but that is the gist of my problem right now. I have a computer monitor bought in europe and am thinking of buying a PS3 in the states as they are a lot cheaper. My monitor has an HD-MI input which makes me think that just connecting the HD-MI cable from the PS3 to the monitor should work but I am not sure. Also I am not sure how to transfer the sound, my understanding is that HD-MI also transfers sound as well as video but I read that you have to play around with the component cables that come with the playstation, is this true?

  • Answer:

The PS3 will work with any monitor equipped with an HDMI jack, regardless of what country the monitor is purchased in. (It is designed to work best with 1920x1080-resolution HDMI-equipped monitors, FYI). And yes, HDMI transmits both digital video and digital audio. The only issue is that some Blu-Ray discs are region-locked, which means the PS3 you buy here in the States will only be able to play back Blu-Ray discs coded for the U.S. region (and discs that are not locked). Blu-Ray discs coded for the Europe region will NOT play back on a PS3 bought in the U.S.. Hope this helps. .
