Is a computer monitor fixable?

What is wrong with my computer monitor?? All black! Please help.?

• Hello my mother in law gave me one of her old computer monitors a month ago but i didnt have a tower for it. Well the other day she bought me a computer tower at an auction. I tried the tower on my moms monitor and it worked, the computer came up saying "No operting system found on the computer". So i still have to install one. Well yesterday i took the computer to my boyfriends house and hooked it up to her old monitor. Im very certain i had everything hooked up right, and the computer was on and working....but the monitor never came on!!! The power lights from the monitor were on, and you could hear it power on. There are 3 or 4 buttons on the front of the monitor and when i pushed them nothing happened. My mother in law said the monitor worked when she had it and the kids used to play games on it. I havent been able to install an operating system as i cant see anything on the screen. It is a Compac monitor and i really dont know how old it is. The computer she bought me is also a compac. The keyboard is compac and the mouse is some other random brand. If someone could please help me fix this terrible problem it would be greatly appreciated. I need the internet hooked up over there asap and i doubt they could do it with a monitor that dont work.

  it seem that your hard drive is faulty the best way to check it would be to have pc technician have a look at it or try disconnecting the hard disk and switch it ON or try refitting the ram your best bet would be with the pc technician cheers
