How do I use dual monitors in Windows 7?

How can I have two functional desktops in Windows 7 with 2 monitors?

  • I have and Nvidia Geforce 9800 GX2 with two video outputs, so naturally, I plug in two monitors and now I have an extention of the first one on the second monitor. My question is: how can I have two desktops, both with windows taskbars and all, and not having to alt+tab or loose focus on one of em to use the other. I want to be able to, for example, play a game on the main one, and have my normal desktop on the second one, so if i get a messenger or a mail, i can pause game and switch to the alternate monitor/desktop without it affecting the main monitor. What happens now is that the alternate monitor has no taskbar in it, is just empty field for stuff, but when i'm in a fullscreen aplication and i clic on the alternate monitor, the aplication alt+tabs and returns to windows. Is a second desk possible in windows 7?
