Why is my VGA component not working?

DVI to VGA monitor not working?

  • I have 3 identical monitors that are all Dell E196FP and would like to hook all up. i have 2 vga ports, on of which is on the motherbourd, and a DVI-I connector port which is on the graphics card with the other vga port. I have hooked two of the monitors so the vga ports with vga to vga cables and it works fine. i have tried a DL-DVI-D to vga cable. the vga port is on the monitor and the dvi-i port is on the tower. (will a DL-DVI-D cable not work for a DVI-I connector?). When i try to 'detect' displays it sais 'another display not detected' and when i click on the display dropdown menue, i see 'available display output on: NVIDIA Geforce 7300 LE'. If you think i simply need to get a new cord, with a vga to DL-DVI-D cable , then where can i find one? would radioshack or best buy have them? Also, i have downloaded all drivers. and i have went into the bios and tried all settings for the monitors (currently set to on board).

  • Answer:

You will never get the third monitor working regardless of what you do. A single graphics card can only support two monitors maximum unless it is an ATi card from the 5000 or 6000 series that supports eyefinity. For Nvidia you need two surround compatible card from the 200,400 and 500 series cards in a Sli configuration to support more than two monitors at once. You cant use the outputs from your graphics card and integrated graphics at the same time,Integrated usually defaults to the dedicated card when detected in bios and auto disables the motherboard graphics.
