How can I use a tv as a computer monitor?

  • I just posted a question about a wall mounted monitor, and the answer I recieved was overwelmingly that I could use a flat screen TV for a wall mounted monitor. However, I don't see how that's possible. I've checked the backs of those things in the store, and I don't see any way for them to connect to a computer. How would I connect a CPU (desktop) to a TV?

  • Answer:

All new HD TVs can be used as a monitor. Most have a VGA (same as on your computer) port, but it is best to use HDMI. If your computer is fairly new it will have a DVI port, which is the same as HDMI except it doesn't carry the audio signal. Some new computers even have HDMI ports. If you have a DVI port get a DVI to HDMI adaptor (the end is cheaper than the whole cable), but make sure you plug it into the right HDMI port on your TV (it will say DVI in) because it is configured to a computers timing which is different. It might work in the other HDMI ports but it won't look good. If you don't have a DVI port on your computer just use the VGA port (it will still give you a great image and I couldn't really tell the difference between HDMI). There are other ways such as S-video but it's not worth it because the picture is crap. My 52" big screen at 1080P is just as clear as my 24" computer monitor. Edit: Make sure you set the resolution to your TVs native res. to get the best possible picture.

You want a 15-pin to rca cable (looks like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51X34C6bCrL._SL500_AA280_.jpg ) or 15-pin to s-video ( http://catalogs.infocommiq.com/AVCat/images/products/main/S%20Video%20to%2015%20Pin%20HD%20Cable_detail.jpg ). That's if you don't have an HDMI port. Your TV has it if it's HD, but your computer may not if it isn't new. If you have HDMI, then simply use an HDMI cable.

if you have VGA cable facility in your tv then bring a VGA cable now connect the both end it will work

There should be slots for an HDMI cable on your video card on computer in general as well as on your TV, get an HDMI cable and plug it in both sides.

There should be a connection for your pc. I will be very surprised if there isn't. Can you post the make and model number?
