Good Eyefinity monitors?

Eyefinity with Crossfire 6870. 3 VGA monitors?

• Hi guys I am planning to do eyefinity with 3 VGA 17" monitors I have. I have crossfire 6870 which support eyefinity but only have a DP, HDMI and 2xdvi connectors each. What adapters do I need to buy and how would I hook them up? Thanks guys

  The DP or Display Port to DVI or VGA adapters (maybe one for each card) hooked to VGA cables will do for 1 or 2 monitors. The processors on the two cards run at least one of the DPs on the two cards and one other output on a card. Which you choose for the third monitor will depend on which port is active and what your budget is. The active DP to DVI to VGA adapter takes USB power and costs $100 approx. It might need active cooling if its heat makes the display turn off. I don't know if your crossfire card(s) came with any DP adapter cable. There are two kinds, active (required for eyefinity) and normal or passive (no power input) DP adapter. I have heard that for using multiple DP outputs on fancy cards you have to buy extra active DP adapters, as no card will work with a "passive" or non-active (no USB power cable) DP adapter for eyefinity. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/272593-33-eyefinity-displayport-adapter-work http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ATI/Radeon_HD_6870_CrossFire/ has a setup for you to see. http://www.linustechtips.com/ltt-videos/full-tour-of-msi-radeon-hd-6870-3x-46-eyefinity-setup-for-ncix-tech-tips-linus-tech-tips shows a single 6870 card running 3 monitors for eyefinity. Host Linus says at least one DP monitor connection of the 3 is required for eyefinity.
