To be honest monitors are not as simple as you think as it can depend on what you use it for. LCD monitors are getting quite outdated but they still have their perks. If you are a gamer you want the least amount of latency ( How long it takes the screen to react after you move the mouse) and LCD monitors deliver with response times at 2ms and below not to mention they can have higher refresh rates (how many visible frames are displayed the average is 60hz while some are 120hz) The higher refresh rates will make everything on screen look a bit more fluid such as moving a window around or playing games as long as your graphics card inst complete ****. LED monitors on the other hand usually have pretty astounding picture quality due to the fact that its not just one lamp back lighting the whole screen. There will be more contrast between colors blacks will be blacker and whites will be whiter. But remember if you are on a budget there are discrepancies my friend bought an LED monitor and compares to my asus 3d monitor which was pretty expensive it doesnt look quite as good as mine even in things in should trump it in. So really try to judge every monitor individually and not just say hey this is in my price range and its an LED so its right for me. Do not rely on specs as they are usually skewed or meaningless use sites like cnet reviews or more comprehensive review sites and really try to judge what you want out of your new monitor. Seriously though if you are a gamer I would sacrifice color quality any day for something that feels responsive and fluid.

LED monitors consume 40% less power than an LCD monitor. If we compare the screens of LED and LCD Television screens we see that while an LCD screen consumes 0.139 watts per square inch, an LED consumes 0.096 of the same. 2. LED Screens have a faster response time as compares to LCDs. While response time of LCDs ranges between 2 – 8 ms, an LED can respond in less than 0.01 ms. 3. LED monitors have a far better contrast ratio resulting in clearer and sharper pictures. While LCD monitors can produce 20:000 contrast ratio, an LED can produce 2.000:000 contrast ratio. LED screens are capable of being sleeker and light weight as compared to LCD monitors. For example, Sony launched a 40 inch Bravia screen as thin as 9.9 mm. From longevity point of view also, LED screens or TVs have longer life. They can run 100 thousand hours, while LCDs can run only for 60 thousand hours.

It's just my opinion, but I would definitely buy an LED monitors ANYDAY over an LCD monitor. LED is much thinner technology and usually has a slightly better picture than and LCD monitor. However, if you want to save money, go withand LCD monitor. Although LED is better quality, you typically won't find it for a cheaper price than LCD.

Well if you are concerned about the energy that your monitor uses, i suggest you buy LED as it only use less power consumption. i got a Devant LCD 19'' monitor which is 45 watts, but with LED it's much lower.
