How do i get a full tv screen when using hdmi to my pc?

  the resolution you have set for your second monitor, (your tv) can make a difference. If the output resolution is the wrong aspect ratio it might not fill up the screen (maybe your outputting non-widescreen on a widescreen TV) The TV could handle the signal all sorts of different ways, stretch it, bars on the sides, zooming etc. Check to make sure you're outputting a reasonable resolution from your laptop, something like 1280x720 (720p), then you know you've eliminated one source of the problem. Then go to your tv and look around in the display settings to see if there are some options on how it handles the image. On mine you get some choices for zoom, stretch to fit, native resolution etc. Toggle between them till it looks right. On my mac laptop I have an option for overscan, it scales the image a little larger to "fill out the tv" better. I think on some TVs it might make sense, on mine it actually stretches the image a litter bigger than the tv, so I lose some of my menus and buttons. I have to turn it off, not sure if you have something like that on you're Dell, but it might help you too.
