How to set up dual monitors?

How Do I set up dual monitors (HP a6000n); what do I need to do?

  • I would like to set up dual monitors (not clones of the same image). I have an HP a6000n. It is pretty much stock (I added some ram I believe). I have one Samsung SyncMaster 906BW monitor and would like to use a matching one (not sure if this matters). I am pretty sure I need a new video card since my current one is integrated (I believe) and is pretty low end. If a computer guru would be so kind as to tell me the best (middle of the road, not the cheapest, but good value for the money) way to set up dual monitors so I can research the internet on one and write reports on the other, I would appreciate it. I don't play awesome games, but I might someday. I might also want to add a third monitor, so if there is an option for that, I would appreciate a suggestion to allow for a future upgrade if that is reasonable. Thank you for your time.

The guy above hasn't been keeping up with the times. You can run triple monitors on a single video card, if you buy the right one. The new ATI Radeon HD5000-series video cards have ATI's Eyefinity triple-monitor support built-in. http://sites.amd.com/us/underground/products/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity.aspx I recommend the Radeon HD5750. At $130 or so, it is the "best bang for the buck" triple-monitor-capable video card, and it will fit in your PCIExpress 16x slot. The third monitor needs to have a DisplayPort jack though, keep that in mind. Dell, NEC and a few other companies offer DisplayPort-equipped monitors, and NEC has a nice 1080p 23-incher equipped with DisplayPort for $370. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A2989270 .
