How do I get my monitor to support my video card?
-
We just got a new 19" samsung widescreen monitor but apparently our Nvidia 6800 GeForce video card does not support it and the picture is stretched out. Is there anything I can do before having to get a new video card? The resolution i need is 1440, 900

Answer:
If the monitor cannot display resolutions as high as 1440, 900 then you need to find a monitor that does. I can't imagine a 6800 requiring such a high resolution. Alot of monitors do not display anything above 1280 x 1024 with exceptional quality and most video cards allow you to select the resolution in which to display. Try this first: - Right click on your desktop. - Click on 'properties' - At the top right hand corner, there is a "Settings" tab that you should click on. - On the middle left hand side, there should be a slider with numbers on the that look similar to this 640 x 480 (or whatever your resolution is set to) and slide it to the left for a lower resolution. - Then click "apply" If that didn't help, I suggest trying to find the settings for your graphics card and turning down the selected resolution, if possible. I don't have a 6800, so that's the best advice I could give to you at this moment.

I would definitely start with your video card driver: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us .

have u tried downloading the latest driver from the web site? did the monitor comes with driver?
Mr. Teng
First I would go to the web site for the Video Card manufacture and see if there are updates for your card. As new monitors come out frequently card manufactures will do software updates (driver software). If that does not work you can tell your monitor to go the the highest level that you video card will support and it should work very well. If this does not solve the problem you can go into the menu key for your monitor and adjust the the video output.

if i remember correctly right click the desktop, select properties, settings, and then advanced there should be a special nvidia tab somewhere. go and browse there to see if you can bump it up to 1440x900 if you can't do 1440x900, then try 1280x800. even though it's not the native resolution, at least it will be widescreen
