Computer help about monitors?

Can someone help with my Computer Monitors and Resolution research task?!?

  • I got asked to complete this task. If you know any of the answers to these could you please help me out! Thanks. What are the most common aspect ratios on a lcd screen? List the most popular screen sizes. If you have two monitors of different size screens but the same resolution, which would give a sharper image and why? How do you alter the display settings for the computer? When designing images for web viewing, what is the average resolution to use and why? What is the term used for displaying colours on monitors?

  • Answer:

Most common ratios are 4:3 like older TV and 16:9 widescreen. A smaller monitor would provide a sharper image than a larger monitor with same resolution because the pixels are tighter together, but the image is also smaller on a smaller monitor. Display settings depend upon the OS of the computer and whether the video card/chip came with a utility, and settings on the monitor itself. Bits per pixel or number of colours would be colour depth (or color depth this side of the pond). The other questions may not have concrete answers and could vary with wants and pricing available at the time (average display becomes larger as prices lower). And graphics may also depend upon average internet speed of your audience, not so much dimensions, but file size (compression).
