Why can't I set my monitor to a higher resolution?

Cant change screen resolution in windows vista?

  • Hey,. I just upgraded to vista.. and the most annoying thing I can see is that I cant set my screen resolution to 1600 × 1200 .. Everything looks so big because in screen settings I cant change it to anything higher than 1024 × 768.. My LCD monitor is 20inches.. Ive searched everywhere and updated my video card drivers. but nothing seems to work. A few hours ago I was enjoying my display perfectly in windows XP. what can I do???

  • Answer:

it should be the same r/click on vacant desktop and go to properties. Before you upgraded , did you run Vista upgrade advisor? It will tell you what version of Vista your computer is good for, both software and hardware? It also tell you what will cause problems etc. May be your PC isn't vista compliant?
