What monitor resolution is Appropriate for a Wallpaper?

  • Hi, everyone. I was about to begin creating a wallpaper, but I want to know what monitor resolution is big enough to fit nicely (without losing any resolution on the image) on most if not all monitors. What I don't want is for my wallpaper to look fine on my computer, but on someone else' computer the resolution won't be right anymore. What's a good resolution to make a wallpaper so it can fit nicely on most if not all monitors? Thanks!

    For older monitors, usually square, 1024x768 is a good resolution. A designers monitor, if square, may be up to 1600x1200. Widescreen monitors tend to be 1280x800 (16:10), 1680x1050 (16:10), or 1920x1080 (16:9). So if you want your wallpaper to be usable by the largest audience of people, choose 1920x1080, or above!
