Monitor Turns Off When Playing Games?
-
I play World Of Warcraft in my spare time, and just recently my monitor has been going black, a white box pops up in the middle of the screen and says "monitor going to sleep". I can't get it to come back on unless I power off my computer and power it back on. Now I have tried several things. 1. I have put Hibernate to Never 2. Put Computer to Sleep: Never 3. Turn Off The Display: Never 4. Hooked up a different monitor and different cords, still went to sleep. 5. Put my computer back to factory settings 6. Updated all my drivers 7. Bought a Registry Program and fixed over 177 registry errors. I have now just went to HP Support and ran tests on everything it allowed me to and everything passed. I'm out of ideas.... I don't know what else to do My Monitor is a HP w2338h Wide LCD Monitor 23in resolution is set to 1920x1080 and my graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT I have ran tests on these and everything passed and have updated all drivers. Oh and I'm running Windows 7 I'm ready to pull my hair out and throw my computer out the window. If anyone has any ideas, please help! Thank you ♥

Answer:
Well I don’t think that gpu draws that much current but what is your PSU rated for and how many years old is it. It sounds like when you draw a lot of power IE WOW the psu drops to unsafe levels causing the MB to drop the discreet graphics card until the computer goes through POST again. That would be my first guess is that there is not sufficient power to the system provided by the power supply. This could be why it worked before when you have an older PSU the capacitors tend to dry out and hold less of a charge so when you draw close to the units max it may not be able to provide the power anymore. Another option of thing to look at is has it worked before? Stupid question but we have to ask. Other then that the game settings out be set beyond what the card can handle so the card fails when the game starts. If you don’t have another power supply try lowering the systems resolution to 600x800 and seeing if this allows the game to start. It could be a game setting si to much for the 9400gt. Side note this sounds like something more of a virus then a help “Bought a Registry Program and fixed over 177 registry errors.” * could be an underlying issue.
