What is the average lifetime of an LCD Monitor?

• I have a PS3, for which I want to use the same display device on my desk as my PC, which has DVI also. I want to know if its better to buy a monitor over a TV, given the same price. i know its a lot of questions but it all centers on 1 topic. question 1: i see a couple of monitors, both have the hdmi input so there is no need to worry about audio. monitor 1 has 1920*1200 and monitor 2 has 1680* 1050 resolution. because monitor 1 has vertical resolution of 1200, which is greater than a 1080, would the 1080p out from the ps3 be displayed well here on the monitor? would it be 1080p or 1080i? i think because the vertical is bigger than 1080 natively, it must be p and not interlaced. i dont understand this very well question 2: would it be stretched? question 3: what would happen to the resolution on monitor 2, would it be 720p? question 4: what about the audio, would it come through the monitor speakers? what do i do if i want to use the 5.1 speakers hooked up to the computer? question 5: LCD seems like it would keep the native resolution of 1080p. Is it because they have the same horizontal vertical pixel ratio? question 6: given that, is it better to get a lcd and run the computer through dvi (i want this on my desk so i dont know if lcd tvs are good for that)? question 7: i hear negative opinion's of lcd's slow framerate. is 5 ms refresh rate good enough for 60 frames per second?

  1. Yes, if the PS3 were able to output a PC signal, then it would be able to display the PS3's 1080P signal. Unfortunately, a PS3 will not work on a standard PC monitor without a converter box. But, the monitors you speak of may be an exception to this rule due to the HDMI input. Let me know what brand and model number it is if you want more info. 2. no it would not be stretched it would underscan, there would be a small black bar on the top and bottom of the image. 3. It would be able to still do the 1080P signal, but there would be a little overscan, so the outer 20 pixels or so would be cut off. 4. If it was HDMI, then it would come out of the monitor speakers. Since the monitor has HDMI input, it probably has some sort of audio out. 5. I am not quite understanding this question... 6. This question would depend on the monitor. 7. Anything under 6ms is just fine.
