How to connect a laptop to an LCD tv?

How do I connect a Panasonic Viera LCD TV to a Laptop computer using S-Video?

  • I'm trying to connect an old laptop computer (2002) to a reasonably new Panasonic Viera LCD TV(2005). My computer is running XP, with a 32mb GeForce GO 440. I bought a S-video cable to connect them, but after connecting, the TV reads "PC no signal detected" and my laptop cannot detect the TV! (through display-nView). Is this a driver problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

Hiya naturalgut_1, S-Video sends the brightness signal and the color signal on different wires. Some older laptops and TV sets do not have the ability to change the signals into a picture. If both devices, the TV and the laptop are unable to do this you will get no picture. A bent pin on the cable could also be the cause, but the cable is new so this is unlikely. You did not mention it but I think you may have a Dell. Many manufacturers provide an S-Video adapter with a modular block built in which does the trick. Here is one: http://www.impactcomputers.com/70tvd.html It is manufactured by Dell and I use several with one always attached to my computer for Video capture purposes. GOOD LUCK!!
