LCD monitor question.

Question about repairing an LCD monitor.?

• i have a 19" monitor that is acting up and have a simple question about repairing it. It turns on, and blinks on with a GREEN LED, then shuts off, i can see an image for about 1/10th of a second. it repeats this about 20-50 times and then finally turns on. (it gets worse by the day) First question is. is this the inverter? or the lightbulb? If its the inverter is it a transformer, or a capacitor? i have read some posts that say to replace the Capacitor, but they seem to be saying that you can see the image, just no light. My monitor will stay on for days once its on, but if its off for more than a half hour it takes a while to trigger on. One last note, i took it apart, and one of the outputs from the inverter board, said a few voltages. all the 5 volts were 5 volts, however the 12 volt read 1 volt, and then would flash around 5 volts (4.9 or so) this may be that way because i had no video signal hooked up and its not tripping the full 12. ANY HELP would be much appreciated.

  If it was a bad backlight (lamp) you would be able to see the faint image of what is on the screen, if the lighting in the room is just right. If the backlight is bad, it usually displays briefly then goes off, it is not one to work once it gets started like you stated it does. If the inverter is bad it would cause the problem most likely like what you're seeing. If you can find and replace the inverter for a few bucks, I'd say go for it, but there's no guarantee that that is the problem, it could be something else inside that's not providing good power to it, but what do you have to lose. If it works, great, but who knows how much longer the backlight will last either, maybe a month, maybe years. It's all a gamble in the end. Best of luck.
